The origins of Paul Wurth go back to 1870 and the construction of a boiler making facility in Luxembourg, the so-called “Kesselfabrik”. 150 years later, Paul Wurth S.A. is still located on the same historical area and preserves its longstanding tradition of technological excellence.
With Paul Wurth’s full integration into the SMS group, the Luxembourg site becomes the research and development center for decarbonisation and recycling within SMS group. To this end, SMS and Paul Wurth are pooling their research and development activities with the common aim of continuing to set technological standards in these forward-looking fields. The future range of services includes all technologies for reducing CO2-emissions in existing steel mills; hydrogen-based, CO2-free direct reduction of iron ore; and Power-To-X technologies for producing synthetic fuels and downstream products. In addition, the international teams of experts from SMS and Paul Wurth will continue to work on expanding the product and service offering across the entire metals industry process chain. Moreover, Luxembourg hosts the Region Europe’s headquarters of SMS group.
The Luxembourg office also hosts the Civil Construction business unit Paul Wurth Geprolux, dedicated to project management, technical building design and consultancy in the field of large sustainable construction and infrastructure projects.

Paul Wurth Italia S.p.A., located in Genova, integrated the Paul Wurth Group in July 2005, as a result of the take-over of the blast furnace, cokemaking and direct reduction activities of the former SMS Demag S.p.A.
Paul Wurth Italia gathers long-lasting expertise and competences in the management of large turnkey projects for the construction of integrated plants, as well as in the execution of engineering and site supervision services, in the field of blast furnaces, cokemaking and direct reduction plants.
With a flexible and efficient technological team of about 250 employees, Paul Wurth Italia can guarantee high quality realisations in the respect of the scheduled execution time, with the support of in-house built advanced technological tools and the overall Paul Wurth competences in research and engineering.
Paul Wurth’s set-up in Germany, Paul Wurth Deutschland GmbH, whose registered office is located in Wiesbaden, provides expert know-how and service out of two places of operation.
Wiesbaden: The special competence of our team in Wiesbaden lies in the design and supply of hot blast stove plants worldwide, including all related facilities, like heat recovery systems, valves, mains and structures. The optimisation of plants and their operation, special repairs and consulting studies are part of their know-how. Furthermore, the team is specialised in the design and supply of blast furnace / SAF linings including carbon materials and cooling systems.
Essen: With a sound expertise in environmental protection technologies and pollution control installations, our team located in Essen supports the Paul Wurth Group by providing technical sales, engineering and project execution services for projects contracted in the field of gas cleaning systems.
Altogether, Paul Wurth Deutschland GmbH contributes to offer our customers a comprehensive and innovative programme of products and services for an optimal, economically viable and environment-friendly operation of their facilities.
Paul Wurth, a.s. was established in 2000 in order to service the customers of Eastern Europe. With about 40 employees, the Czech entity operates as provider of mechanical engineering and is mainly involved in the local production of various standard equipment. Paul Wurth, a.s. has developed as a competence centre for BF process media valves and is in charge of projects on a worldwide scale.
The Ukraine Representation Office was set up in 2008 to intensify the local promotion of Paul Wurth’s products and technologies. The team supports sales activities and the execution of orders from Ukraine mills, it co-ordinates the collaboration with local project partners and supports the supervision of the fabrications by local companies.
Paul Wurth Geprolux is the group’s specialist for town planning, civil engineering and infrastructure projects, providing project management, technical building design and strategic consultancy services. Its 70-strong multidisciplinary team of specialists offers customers expert advice and customised services at every stage of planning and construction, from the initial concept all the way through to handover acceptance of the finished project.
Through our reputation and renowned expertise, since more than 50 years we have been influencing the Luxembourgish urban landscape through unique projects such as bridges, railway stations, an airport, school complexes and many other emblematic buildings in Luxembourg.

After having opened a representative office in Beijing in 1995 Paul Wurth Metal Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. was set up in 1999 as wholly foreign owned enterprise invested by Paul Wurth S.A. Luxembourg.
Paul Wurth Metal Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd covers today around 40 people. A special focus lies on the design and supply of equipment used in the construction and modernization of blast furnace plants.
For the local Chinese market, our engineering and manufacturing capabilities allow us to offer high standard equipment based on imported Paul Wurth technology combined with supply of key components based on competitive local manufacturing. Outside of China, we offer to worldwide customers increased competitiveness by making use of local Chinese manufacture under the quality control of Paul Wurth.
Established in 2008, Shanghai Paul Wurth Metallurgical Equipment Manufacture Co. Ltd is the Group’s service arm in the P.R. of China. Beyond providing proximity services to the Chinese iron and steel industry, the workshop in Shanghai is specialised in the manufacture of complete original equipment, spare parts as well as reconditioning of Paul Wurth BLT charging equipment as well as components for cokemaking plants.
Paul Wurth was incorporated in India in 1993 as the first Asian subsidiary of the Group. Since then, Paul Wurth has made a substantial contribution to the development of India’s steel industry by supplying state-of-the-art technology and equipment for ambitious ironmaking projects. Paul Wurth has always pursued a policy of close contact with its customers and, thus, has established a trustful relationship with the most eminent Indian steel producers both from the public and private sector, who appreciate Paul Wurth for the quality and excellence of its products and services. Expressed in figures, 40% of the Indian Hot Metal capacity is coming from Paul Wurth blast furnaces and Paul Wurth equipment contributes to 85% of Hot Metal production in India.
In 2014, Paul Wurth established a service workshop in Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) for the manufacture, repair and maintenance of various equipment and components. This approach is in line with the “Make in India” concept and increases even more our proximity and responsiveness towards our Indian customers.
Considering the office of Paul Wurth India Pvt. Ltd in New Delhi, some site offices across India and the service workshop in Bhubaneswar, the Paul Wurth group has today a workforce of about 140 persons in India.
Located in Kaohsiung, South of Taiwan, since its creation in 1994, Paul Wurth Taiwan with its 15 employees represents the Group in South and North East Asia and Australasia. It is dedicated to the procurement of local manufacture and engineering. In collaboration with local companies, the entity is able to contribute to the design of complete plants for the local and international market, particularly in the disciplines of civil, electrical, instrumentation and programmable logic controller supplemented by a whole range of customer services – engineering, project management, site supervision, commissioning and after-sales service – as well as by environmental protection technologies.
Over the past years, the Taiwan entity has built up a reputation for itself on the market as contact for Paul Wurth equipment and for the promotion of our product portfolio in South and North East Asia.
In close collaboration with the Taiwan entity, Paul Wurth Korea Branch is a two-man-branch that services the local customer base and follows up the expansion and modernisation projects of the Korean iron and steel industry.
In 2012, Paul Wurth has joined hands with the Japanese company IHI Corporation to create a new Joint Venture company in Tokyo, called Paul Wurth IHI Co., Ltd.
Thanks to the 50/50 Joint Venture, the Paul Wurth Group will be able to reinforce its presence in Japan and offer the local iron & steel industry the entire portfolio of our most advanced iron and coke making technologies.
Although the first focus of Paul Wurth IHI is the Japanese market, its activities shall expand onto the extended South-East Asia territory.

Set up in 1984, Paul Wurth Inc. is the extended arm of the Group in the North American iron and steel industry through the sale and manufacture of specialised blast furnace and steelmaking equipment.
Having over the years successfully obtained orders for nearly the entire range of Paul Wurth products, the ca. 30 employees of Paul Wurth Inc. mainly concentrate today on engineering and supply of equipment in the context of blast furnace relines in the United States and in Canada.
Our North American Service Centre operated by Paul Wurth Inc. is located in Valparaiso, Indiana, in the Great Lakes region in close proximity to our customers. Our experts there provide a broad assortment of site and shop services for the full range of Paul Wurth equipment, such as Bell Less Top® components, stove equipment, all types of valves and casthouse equipment.

Incorporated in 1977, Paul Wurth do Brasil is the oldest overseas branch of the Paul Wurth Group and counts today about 70 employees.
Headquartered in Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais, Paul Wurth do Brasil is strategically located in an equidistant position from the biggest Brazilian iron and steel industries. The Brazilian office also takes care of other markets in South America.
