First Stamp Charged Coke Oven Battery in Japan for JFE Steel Corporation

Stamp charged coke battery

In June 2022, JFE Steel Corporation placed an order with Paul Wurth IHI for the first stamp charged coke oven battery in Japan. This came after a detailed and comprehensive evaluation process by JFE Steel.

The new stamp charged coke oven battery consists of 52 ovens and is the first of its kind in Japan. The new facility will be constructed at JFE’s Fukuyama works and will have a capacity of 682 000 tons per year.
This latest order marks a further milestone in the successful collaboration between JFE Steel, Paul Wurth and our Japanese joint venture Paul Wurth IHI in the coke oven sector in Japan.
After the successful supply of several top charged coke oven batteries to JFE Steel Corporation, JFE also decided to entrust Paul Wurth with the new stamp charged coke oven battery technology.

The scope includes the unique smokeless charging system together with the well-proven SOPRECO® system. The smokeless charging system in combination with the SOPRECO® system will significantly contribute to reducing emissions during the charging and the carbonization process.
For charging, the new stamp charged coke oven battery Paul Wurth will supply the SCP (Stamping, Charging and Pushing) machine on a turnkey basis and the charging gas transfer car based on its proven design.

The contract with JFE Steel Corporation was signed in June 2022 and engineering of the projects has started. This project is expected to start operation in 2025.
