LBE PROCESS

The LBE process and equipment for converters allows a wide range of steels to be produced in optimum conditions. Paul Wurth is the exclusive supplier of the LBE process and equipment, developed together with Arbed (Luxembourg) and Irsid (French Iron and Steel Research Institute), both now Arcelor. In the LBE process, inert gas is introduced through special permeable elements set in the refractory bottom of a top blown oxygen converter.The oxygen blow control is based on sound record by Sonicmeter. When acquiring the original LBE process and equipment, you get: a well proven process the experience gathered on 80 converters with:       -  very variable hot metal composition Si from 0.1 to 2.5 Mn from 0.2 to 2.5 P up to 2.5 -  optimal production of almost any type of steel Outstanding results : Steel quality and productivity are improved Production of new steel grades Operation costs are decreased Converter life = 3000 heats and more, without slag splashing, almost no gunning repair, no intermediate exchange of the permeable elements
