Luxembourg, 8 April 2008. With a production of 42.8 mtpa of crude steel in 2007, Ukraine is among the ten biggest producers of crude steel in the world. The iron and steelmaking sector provides around 25% of the industrial output of the country. Its dynamic trend (+ 5% in 2007) leads to the redistribution of the assets among local and international steel groups and to the modernization of the production tools.
In this frame, Paul Wurth was awarded a first contract by Yenakievo Iron & Steel Works (Metinvest Group) for the engineering and supply of the Midi-Bell Less Top® charging sytsem and gas cleaning technology based on an axial cyclone and scrubber. This implementation will be done on BF3.
More than just a new contract, the decision taken by this major Ukrainian steel producer shows the willingness of the local steel industry’s decision makers to adopt state-of-the-art processes and technologies in order to consolidate their position among the worldwide actors.
