Luxembourg, 23 May 2008. Paul Wurth de Chile Ltda, entity of Paul Wurth Group located in Santiago and taking more specifically care of the application of Paul Wurth and TMT technologies in non-ferrous sectors in Latin America, has been awarded a new contract for the supply of a TMT tapping machine by Doe Run Peru, a Peruvian mining and metallurgical company, for its multi-metal smelting and processing facilities located in the city of La Oroya in Peru (3.720 m.a.s.l). The metallurgical facilities at La Oroya smelt and process copper, lead as well as zinc ores and are producing ten refined metals and various by-products. In the frame of its development plan, Doe Run Peru will put in operation second half of 2009 a new Isasmelt furnace which will process 280 000 tpa copper concentrate. TMT - Tapping Measuring Technology GmbH, a joint company of Paul Wurth and Dango & Dienenthal, specialized in tapping machines will build and deliver a machine which will operate on one taphole of this new Isasmelt furnace by travelling on an overhead crane way. This machine will be equipped with a remote control which makes the drilling and tapping operations even safer. Further to Southern Copper Ilo Smelter project where a similar machine has been commissioned in 2007, this new contract with Doe Run Peru not only stresses the dynamism of the Peruvian metal industry, but also confirms that the advantages of TMT technologies provide commercial and operational benefits to the smelting plants.
