Paul Wurth Civil Construction Life Cycle Engineering

Luxembourg and Essen, 10 September 2008. Paul Wurth Civil Construction Luxembourg demonstrates its willingness to expand even more into the technical engineering for civil construction projects by founding a department Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) hosted by Paul Wurth Umwelttechnik GmbH in Essen.

The objective is to grow this department to 10 people and be complementary to the 12 strong technical engineering team of the Luxembourg Civil Construction department.

It will support Paul Wurth Civil Construction Luxembourg in the area of sustainable construction in the effort to combine the ecological, economical and the social components of the civil construction projects. In this way the combination between the quality and comfort level for the user and the return for the investor will be assured.
In Germany it will develop the market for project management, technical engineering and consulting missions for the construction sector.

Paul Wurth Civil Construction Life Cycle Engineering will be active in:

  • Numeric building simulations
  • Risk and Technical Due Diligences
  • Low energy and low CO2 concepts
  • Green building and climate engineering
  • Life cycle cost analysis and optimizations
  • Assistance in façade and building physics
  • Advanced Concepts in technical building systems

For the production industries (as for example the steel industry) total cost of ownership i.e. the inclusion of the overall life cycle costs into investment decisions is on the agenda of the decision makers since many years. With the tighter market conditions, ecological audits and the rising energy costs the civil construction industry is also interested in considering the wider perimeter and look beyond the simple investment costs. Maintenance-, energy costs and ecological concepts are included in the balance and make the difference between good investments and standard projects.

Furthermore Paul Wurth Civil Construction will support its customers to be ahead of the European Community Action Plan for Energy Efficiency, which identifies energy efficiency in the building sector as top priority. With a key initiative in realising the savings potential in the building sector, which is estimated at 28%, and which in turn can reduce the total EU final energy use by around 11%.
