new Coke Oven Plant in Meramandali,
Orissa State

Genoa, 17 June 2008. BHUSHAN Steel, LTD awarded the contract for the delivery of a new coke making plant at Meramandali – Dhenkanak & Angul District, Orissa, India - to Paul Wurth Italia S.p.A..

Paul Wurth Italia’s scope of services comprises engineering, supervision and the supply of key equipment.
The contract also includes the delivery, in cooperation with DMT GmbH, of a complete C.O.G. treatment plant.

The project consists of one top charging battery with a chamber height of 7.6 m (hot status), taking into account the available coal quality and the production level to be achieved (around 1.24 Mt/y after the first phase, plus 1.24 Mt/y after the second phase). 72 ovens will be built in the first phase and a further 72 with the same characteristics will be adjoined in the second phase.

Paul Wurth’s technological solution offers the following advantages:

  • A compact design with 1 battery per phase.
  • A reduced number of operations due to the large oven design, with positive results in terms of pollution control.
  • A proven and tested design, including all the “state of the art” technological solutions.
The first coke is expected to be pushed in December 2010 and the expected production is of 1,243,000 tonnes/y gross coke.
