The order includes all the most advanced Paul Wurth technologies, such as last generation BLT®, copper cooling elements, coal dust injection, INBA® slag granulation, casthouse equipment and BF probes of TMT design, gas cleaning plant, stockhouse including dedusting, hot stoves equipped with heat recovery system, electric equipment, instrumentation, automation and control system (level 1), process control system (level 2) and intelligent supervisory assistance for BF operation.
Paul Wurth will also provide operational training of VSP personnel, supervision to erection and commissioning of the new 3800 m3 (inner volume) BF3 - among the biggest in the Indian Steel Industry. Larsen & Toubro will provide balance to Paul Wurth technological equipment, civil works, structural fabrication and erection of the plant.
The contract has been discussed and was awarded in an environment of tough competition. The customer honoured the consortium’s excellent knowledge of the local business environment, the project organization and the overall cost evaluation based on lifetime cycle consideration.
The new BF3 at Vizag Steel Plant will be commissioned within 30 months from order award and will produce 2.5 Mty of hot metal, allowing VSP to increase its overall production to 6.5 Mty of final products.
