Luxembourg, 8 January 2008. A new blast furnace No. 2 becomes the centrepiece of AMK’s hot metal capacity expansion and modernization at their integrated steel plant in Alchevsk. The furnace is seized at 13.8 m hearth diameter and shall produce 10 500 tpd of hot metal to be delivered to a new converter steelmaking shop. Start-up of the blast furnace is planned for the first half of 2009.
For this new, conveyor belt fed furnace AMK awarded a contract for design and supply of a new generation two-hopper BLT® charging system to the Paul Wurth Group. Thus, the newest Ukrainian blast furnace will be fit for reliable operation with best available top charging practice for optimal burden distribution ensuring process efficiency and high productivity.
