Contract awarded to Paul Wurth for the construction of ThyssenKrupp Steel’s blast furnace 8 in Hamborn

Luxembourg , 6 April 2006. Centerpiece of a modernization program for the hot metal base of ThyssenKrupp Steel is the construction of the new blast furnace 8 in Duisburg-Hamborn. With a hearth diameter of 10.74 m, the new blast furnace will allow a production of 2.0 million t/year of hot metal. 

In the frame of this project, the Paul Wurth Group, via Paul Wurth Umwelttechnik in Essen, was awarded an important contract for the turn-key supply of the blast furnace installation, including the blast furnace tower and shell, the casthouse, the cyclone, the pulverized coal injection plant, the skip bridge and skip hoisting equipment as well as tapping machinery and probes.

Blow-in date of the BF8 in Hamborn is scheduled for December 2007.
