New Technology for Sintering Off-Gas Cleaning in Industrial Use

Luxembourg , September 28, 2006. ROGESA Ironworks commissioned an innovative gas cleaning system at their Dillingen sinter plant in Germany.

The flue gas desulphurisation is performed in an entrained flow reactor using hydrated lime and lignite coke as reagents – thus, hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids, dioxins and furans are bound in addition. These reactions are followed by bag filter dry cleaning of the gas, down to extremely low dust content. The clean gas which is released to the atmosphere via a stack conforms to the stringent conditions of the German “TA Luft? environmental legislation.

Comparatively low specific consumption of the reagents and moderate investment cost brought the operator to favour this technology.

The order for engineering, supply, erection and commissioning of this plant has been awarded to Paul Wurth Umwelttechnik, Essen, Germany.

The new gas cleaning facility is installed at sinter strand No. 3, downstream of the existing electrostatic precipitator and main blower. Connection and switch-over were done during a regular maintenance stop in April 2006; more than 650,000 Nm3/h of sintering off-gas are now processed using the new technology.
