Mitigating the environmental footprint of its technological solutions is one of the daily challenges of Paul Wurth. In the blast furnace sector, Paul Wurth is continuing to exploit the energy-saving potential of the BF process and has further optimised its highly efficient Top gas Recovery Turbine (TRT).

By leading the blast furnace off-gas stream through an expansion turbine, installed downstream of the gas-cleaning equipment, the kinetic energy contained in the pressure of the blast furnace gases is transformed into electricity. For a large blast furnace with high top pressure, the gas recovery results in substantial electric energy savings and contributes, in a sizeable way, to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
