On 10 February 2017, all Final Acceptance Tests (FAT) with regard to Battery#1 and Battery#2 of Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecèm (CSP) at its Cearà works in Brazil have been completed in a record time of 9 months, since CSP’s new coking plant started up in May 2016.
In 2012, Paul Wurth was contracted by Posco Engineering & Construction for the engineering, the supply of key components as well as the supervision of the erection and commissioning of two identical batteries with 50 coke ovens each and an oven height of 7.6 m. Each battery is designed to produce 672 870 tonnes of coke per year.
Besides the batteries, the new coking plant integrates a whole range of state-of-the-art Paul Wurth cokemaking technologies, such as Schalke coke oven machines, process control and automation as well as the coke quenching system. A particular focus was given to the environmental aspect thanks to in-house developed products such as SUPRACOK™ level-2 automation system for coke oven plants and SOPRECO® Single Oven PREssure Control.
The FAT signing testifies that all design and contractual performances were successfully completed and proven. It marks an important milestone for this Paul Wurth cokemaking project, representing also a premiere for Paul Wurth jumbo oven batteries on the American continent.
